Montreal’s Defund Fest: honouring lives, building community

local514 | September 28, 2025

The fourth edition of the Defund La Police Festival took place in Montreal on September 21, 2025, at the École de Danse et Culture Chinoise, after political interference forced organizers to relocate from Sun-Yat-Sen Park. In their opening word, the collective highlighted the event coinciding with the third anniversary of Ronny Kay’s death at the hands of the SPVM. The attendees and organizers observed a moment of silence and remembrance, in consultation with Kay’s family. The program included panels on housing, policing, food sovereignty, and community history.
