Is the foster care system the new residential school system?

Indigenous children are overrepresented within Canada’s foster care system by 52%, while Indigenous children make up only 7% of the youth population in Canada. There are no available statistics of the demographic of Indigenous youth in the foster care system in Montreal, however, Inuit children are being failed within it. Local 514 host Savanna Craig looks into how colonialism, lack of support and cultural misunderstanding contributes to a higher rate of Indigenous youth within the foster care system and lack of support towards those youth in the system.
