Montreal Eviction Protest — November 10th

cutv_admin | November 27, 2022

On Thursday, November 10th, The Montreal Autonomous Tenants’ Union organized a public demonstration to protest a planned police eviction of a homeless encampment under the Ville Marie Expressway near Lionel Groulx metro.

The eviction – which would’ve been one of the largest encampment evictions of 2022 – was successfully postponed. These evictions are done in an attempt to “clean up” the city, prioritizing public decency over peoples’ lives and wellbeing. In order to adequately address homelessness, we need to tackle the housing crisis, the rising cost of rent, predatory landlords, underfunded social services, austerity politics, and our dysfunctional shelter system. Evictions are not the solution.
