“No Cuts to Care”: Groups push back on refugee healthcare changes

local514 | April 15, 2026

Migrant rights groups and healthcare workers teamed up to call on the federal government to reverse planned changes to the Interim Federal Health Program. The program offers healthcare to refugees. Changes will reduce the amount of free coverage refugees receive.

A “No cuts to care” campaign was launched with several actions to get the attention of the federal government. One of those actions was a phone zap, where protesters called MPs and ministers and filled up their voicemails with the same message.

Nadine Louis, the director of Action Réfugiés Montréal, believes the changes are bad for the healthcare system as a whole.
